2015 Reflection - Look Back, Look Forward

This year has been a really exciting and difficult year. 4 Terms in a row was pretty hard by doing all my learning tasks finishing it off properly and getting to know all the year 7 and 8 students. I was in Room 3 and my teacher was the beautiful Mrs Tele’a.

Every day we have Literacy, Maths and sometimes Inquiry for our Topic. During our days we have to change classes, for Literacy I was in Miss Peato but for Maths I was with Mrs Tele’a. For this year Maths was my favourite subject, it sometimes very challenging and sometimes easy.

This year I've been finding Reading and Writing very difficult because we would always have presentations and also making our own documents. But Literacy is so interesting because the Titles of the reading comprehensions have a lot of detailed stories. MIss Peato has been really helpful by explaining to us how we have to do our reading task.

If I was to grade myself out of 10-10 of being awesome what would I grade myself?
I would grade myself a 5-10 because I've been having a poor attendance for almost this whole term but for the last three weeks of school I've been coming to school everyday.

This year 2015, I've been contributing in class by helping the kids with their work. But I've also been awarded certificates during some of our assemblies. Mrs Tele’a has letted me know of ow I've been contributing by awarding me certificates and telling me what I've done.

In 2016 at college I would want my teachers think that I’m a really good girl by me contributing with others. Also Listening and on task all the time, never mucking around with the bad kids but just working on task for the whole session. In college I will work my hardest be a good girl and listen to the teachers also never do any smoking and drinking.

For college next year 2016, I want to be changed by having a excellent attendance and achieving my goals for the other few years. My goal for next year is to have access to my work and strive to succeed by showing what awesome looks like and showing people how to have a good life in college.

The Google Expedition

On Tuesday the 24th of November the Team 5 block had an Google Expedition. Michael was the man that was giving us the instructions. The year 7’s had it in the morning when the year 8’s were gone to technology, but the year 8’s had it after morning tea.
The Google Expedition is so amazing, it’s all about visiting places and the forest also all sorts of things. It was made as goggles but more detailed, it’s a cardboard made like goggles but they put a smart phone underneath inside. The cardboard was really interesting with the smart phone, but there was a lot of rules of the cardboard.

Mrs Tele’s was part of this as well, she was telling us the rules of the expedition. There was this button on the smartphone from the side, if we press it then the phone will reset. Mrs Tele’s was telling us the button for the zooming in and out, also the places we were on.Michael and Mrs Tele’s were both doing the location like going to the places. Sometimes Mrs Tele’a would tell us to spot some things in the forest and under water. We even visited the highest tower in the world, it was so high and scary.

These are the places we visited on the Google Expedition. Under Water, In The Forest, The jungle, The highest tower, France in a bedroom, Anzac Graves In Gallipoli. That’s all the places I can remember but there was more than that. While we were seeing these interesting places we noticed that they’re 4D on the expedition. People were always saying it’s “3D” but it was actually 3D. The highest tower was my best place we visited.

If we wanted to look around we have to move around or go side to side. We could always look up and look down on the ground to spot some insects. But it was quite annoying because we were always bumping into each other. The girls were so annoying because they were screaming and laughing. But I was just being quite and looking around, the boys weren’t screaming at all the were just talking to each other. Mrs Tele’a said if we be really noisy then we won’t visit that much places.

We had about 15 mins for each group, because there was 3 groups and my group was “Rua” we were the first group to try it. The girls were being so fussy so the next group had to come. But we didn’t have that much places to visit, we only had about 8 or 7. Nobody was mad about finishing early they were just so happy that they did the google expedition. We Finally finished and the next group came it was group “Toru”, I was trying to tell them about it but they were just too excited. That was the end of our Google Expedition so we had to go back to class and carry on with our “Maths”.

Persuasive Writing Task

NO MORE PLAYTIME FOR PRIMARY KIDS...

DISAGREE
I disagree about this topic because the children should have a break and a bit of play from their learning they have been doing in class, maybe sometimes they might need some fresh air so they should be able to have a break from their learning. But if they think they argue and make trouble it's good to have teachers on duty. They also need to have some food and a bit of a drink before they get back to work otherwise they will get lazy and tired or they might fall asleep during learning.

AGREE
I agree because sometimes we might need more time to learn also sometimes the children are way behind in their reading and maths. They shouldn't have playtime because if they have playtime and get back to learning all their going to be talking about is what they were doing in playtime and all the trouble that happened instead of talking about what their learning about. When playtime’s finish they will come late to class, for example “all the kids like cards and always play with them and when the bell ring their still flicking cards and then when all the kids are in class and the teacher marks the roll and calls out that child's name and she or he is not their and they will be outside playing cards and the teacher is wondering where they are. So just remember to be in "the right place in the right time with the right attitude".

Graphic Organiser - Just One Wheel

Here is my graphic organiser work that I've been working through the week.
The "BEFORE" box is what I've been thinking about before I read the book.
The "DURING" box is what i found in the book during when I was reading.
The lucky last box "AFTER" is what I already know after reading the book.

Immersion Assembly

Yay! We are finally back to school all the teachers dressed up as characters for the Immersion Term 2 Assembly. The bell rang at 8:30 and all the team 5 students lined up getting ready for the immersion assembly. Mrs Tele’a was talking to us about how good the yr 8 camp was and the yr 7’s at school in the last week of term 1. We also were learning part of our item for the morning it was really cool because we did it all together.

At 8:50am the next bell rang and all the students and teachers headed to the hall to gett all organised. Some of the other team 5 students, Mrs Nua and Ms garden were cooking some mini pancake pikelets and marshmallows with biscuits. Then Mr Burt and the others started to give out to the little ones and then came at the back to give some to the team 5 student.

“Ladies and gentlemen” said Mr Burt “Welcome back to Term 2”, “get ready for Team 1” and here comes Ms George to lead team 1. Their one was about “Healthy Body, Healthy Smile and Healthy Playground”. What they did is give out healthy food and that was “Celery, Carrot, Triangle Sandwiches and some other food, and that was the end of team 1.

Next Group is Team 2, there one was about living on the streets and others going out to help, but they got it from the movie winnie the pooh. The third one up was team 3 and Miss King Stood up and was talking about their topic. They didn’t do a item but they created their own movie for us to watch but it was about “Tinkering Tools and Toys ,for example these lazy kids just hanging around sleeping got nthing to do but the minions help them to tinker tools and toys so that was the end.

Next up Team 4 and here comes Mr Somerville was the one that lead it, but they didn’t do a item but the did a movie, it was about “something sensible to do in a rainy weather. So the thing they did in a rainy day was to play video games, it was really cool because they animated it with themselves in the video game. Mr Somerville was the main person in the game he was also the good one, but Miss Lavakula and Mr Backs was the bad guy so Mr Backs got kille and Mr Somerville got killed from Miss Lavakula because she had a fish and whacked his sword and whacked himself.

Next up is the AMAZING Team 5, “March, March, March” walking up Mrs Tele’a with her army crew the team 5 wonderful teachers following up. They were so cool because they were acted as the ANZAC people but they were talking about tinkering tools and toys. Mrs Tele’a was the leader of the team 5 crew, and at the last bit all of the team 5 students and teacher said “How can we make things better! Auu Auu” we all shout the roof.

Fun Day At PolyFest

family 2.JPG

On a beautiful day, the 19th of March on Thursday the beautiful intermediate of Pt England School went to a trip to Polyfest. All five classes went on all four busses to the Manukau Sports Bowl Park to see some amazing Performers and Singing. We had a lot of parent helpers that came to be helpers for our groups.

First we all went in the street for a bit of talking and Mrs Tele’a was telling us about what we are going to do when we get there. Mrs Tele’a was calling out some of the groups and calling out the people that couldn’t go. There was 13 groups altogether and each group had 5,6 or 7 or 8 people.

Yay! We arrived and everyone screaming out loud because so excited to be there, we all walked out of the bus and lining up to get ready to go in the entrance. We walked with Mrs Tele’a into the entrance and one of these guys were talking on a microphone about what we have to do, it was so amazing because I saw this man that was on the samoan movie called “Tatau”, so we walked in and walked all the way to the ASB and we had to sit down and wait for all of the schools to come.

There all here now, All of a sudden here comes the Prime Minister of New Zealand “John Key!”. We are all shouting “woo hoo” and here he comes. I was so happy to see him but the thing was that we didn’t get to talk to him or have some conversation with him.

Finally we get to go and look around, first we went to the Niue stage to eat and then we went to see the GLOBUG lady name Helen. Then we went to see other stores and it was so exciting because they were telling us about the things. After that it was lunch time and everyone had to go back to the ASB and we all got goody bags and hats.

Finally it was end of the day and everyone went back on their busses to arrive back to school. Our group was the first ones back to school so we just relaxed and waited for others, first Iisa did a big thank you to our parent helpers in our group and gave them packet of chocolate eggs. So school was finish and everyone went home and said a big goodbye.

Polyfest Post

Kia Ora, talofa lava, malo e lelei, faakalofa lahi atu, kia orana, bula vinaka, namaste and greetings!!  It’s Pasifika week in Aotearoa, this means it’s a week long celebration of all things Pacific.  This includes the birthday dance we had with Mrs Tele’a!  Part of the celebration is the Polyfest!  This Thursday we are planning to travel to Manukau to take part in some workshops and then visit stages.  The two stages we will be visiting will be the Maori and Diversity stages.  Did you know that this event - the Polyfest celebrates 40 years since it’s beginning? Awesome isn’t it!

Why do you think young people and their whanau participate? I think because they want to know how hard they've been practising and how good it is to do performing. They would also participate so that they can meet some of the performers and have some discussion with them.

What things do you think the performers had to go through to get to having the items we will see?
  1. See how good their confident in dancing
  2. Practise practise to make perfect
  3. Make sure you know how to do the actions

How do you think this promotes our different cultures? I think it promotes different cultures by confidence and being available to perform. Also getting along with other people and discussing how good they are and confident with their dancing.

What I’m looking forward to on Thursday is the performing of the Samoan group because I really like Samoa dancing. I’m also looking to see people and talk with them or see some of my family members. But I just can’t wait to go to also watch the Cook Island Hula girls.
